Dignity Players, Bay Theatre Company, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, and the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland present a staged reading of Dustin Lance Black’s new court room drama 8 based on transcripts and interviews from the federal case for marriage equality. “8″ demystifies the debate around marriage equality by chronicling the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Join us on Sunday, July 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. A reception and Q&A with representatives from the Maryland General Assembly, Equality Maryland, Marylanders for Marriage Equality, Standing on the Side of Love, and Maryland Faith for Equality follows the performance. $10 Admission. All proceeds benefit American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organizational sponsor of the federal lawsuit for marriage equality. For tickets or reservations, please visit dignityplayers.org.
If anyone is going, I'd love to hitch a ride up to Annapolis. I'll meet you at any Metro station. If you drive but don't have a car, I'll split the zipcar rental.

Strand Theater presents

A Peppermint Patty Christmas by Kate Bishop
directed by Da'Minique M. Williams

Patricia dreads going home for the holidays. It seems her winter gloom descends like the dancing robot Santas and the light-up Messiahs, earlier and earlier every year. But this year, she's going to set a different dinner table. Patricia made a promise to herself, her girlfriend, and her therapist that this is the year -- no matter how much her mom tries to keep conversation meteorological in nature -- this year she's going to try something new. She will tell the truth. The whole truth. And nothing. But. The truth.

A Peppermint Patty Christmas will be performed at the Strand from December 2nd until December 18th. General admission is $15, Students/Seniors are $10.  Reservations can be made by phone 443-874-4917 or ONLINE.

Every weekend in June, the Strand Theater Company is producing a $5 play by an emerging local playwright.
The Friends and Neighbors Festival is an opportunity for emerging playwrights to showcase their work in a semi-professional environment. It also gives patrons the chance to view new works of theater inexpensively. The playwrights in the 2010 festival were hand selected from a group of 45 submissions. The plays in the Friends and Neighbors Festival: Works by Women exemplify creativity in writing, use of space, and theater techniques. The four plays in the festival vary from traditional to experimental. Each playwright works with a director and cast present the audience with a first look of their original piece. We are proud to add the Maryland State Arts Council to our list of donors to the festival. Please read below a description of each play.
