Tiptree Book Club?

Would anyone be interested in a feminist speculative fiction cbook club in the Rockville, MD area? I went to Wiscon in May, and since then I've spoken to several people who wanted to go but couldn't, and have been thinking about how I can bring some of that vibe back home. To get the ball rolling, I was thinking of pulling a couple of recent Tiptree-winning novels for group readings. (See Tiptree winners on wiki.) Lebanese Taverna Cafe at Rockville Town Center has parking and metro access within a five minute walk, among other features, so I thought it might be a good place for a monthly book club to meet. I made a poll to gague interest, but if I've left some item dear to your heart off the poll, please add a comment to this post. Most of the poll questions are designed around what is most convenient for me, and are up for revision if something else works better for most people.

This sounds awesome, thank you for posting! For the record, I'm in Silver Spring so Rockville is okay but a bit of a hike (I use Metro), and Saturday afternoons would probably be okay too.

Yeah, I'm doing the metro thing too, so I'm being, um, time-efficient and trying to organize something relatively close to home (and, incidentally, across the square from Rockville regional library).

I'm NaNoing, so I'm pretty sure a book group is out. If you reannounce in January though, I might join you.

A SF orientated book group might be a lot of fun. The only problem is that I'm already in a book group (that tends to meet on Saturdays on the third week of the month, sometimes later) and a guild that meets on second Saturdays. Also, Rockville is a bit of a hike considering I live in Takoma Park, but it's not impossible and I've certainly gone further for book-group stuff.

I'd actually prefer a week night meeting to keep my weekends open, but Saturdays are more reasonable for people who have other weekday responsibilities. (Like I can do pretty much any weeknight but Tuesdays and Fridays for class and work reasons, respectively.) I'm defaulting to Rockville because it's my neck of the woods, and a lot easier for me to scout locations. If enough people are interested in a different location, we can move, or the geographically compatible like you and cinco might try a carpool.

You're assuming that I have a car, which I don't. I use Metro and the bus system to get around.
